Dáithí O’Ceallaigh is a UCD graduate in History and Irish. He joined the Department of Foreign Affairs in 1973 and served as a diplomat in Moscow, London, Belfast and New York.
He was appointed Irish Ambassador to Finland in 1993, and subsequently was appointed Ambassador to Estonia, the United Kingdom and the UN in Geneva. He served in a number of positions in Dublin, including head of the Anglo-Irish Division. On retirement in 2010, he became Director of the Institute of International and European Affairs, Chair of the Press Council and is currently Chair of Innovate for Ireland. He is a member of the Royal Irish Academy.
