John O’Donoghue lives in Caherciveen, Co. Kerry. He is a qualified Barrister and Solicitor.
He was a member of the Southern Health Board from 1982 to 1997, Kerry County Council from 1985 to 1991 (Chairperson 1990/1991) and 1993 to 1997. He was T.D. for Kerry South from 1987 to 2011. He was Minister of State at the Department of Finance, with special responsibility for the Office of Public Works from November 1991 to February 1992 and a member of the British-Irish Parliamentary Body from 1993 to 1997. He held the office of Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform from 1997 to 2002, Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism 2002-2007 and was Ceann Comhairle of Dáil Éireann from 2007 to 2009.
