Mary completed her BA degree in History and Geography from UCD, and after moving to Kerry, she was awarded a BA degree in English from the University of London, having studied by distance learning.
She worked with Kerry VEC, now Kerry ETB, first as Education Co-ordinator with South Kerry Development Partnership for over 20 years, and later as manager of the O'Connell Adult Education Centre, Cahersiveen.
After her retirement from Kerry ETB, she worked as a guide in Derrynane House for 5 seasons, a very valuable and memorable experience.
